Catholic Daughters of the Americas

Founded in 1903 in Utica, NY by the Knights of Columbus as a charitable and patriotic sorority for Catholic ladies, the organization was originally called the "National Order of the Daughters of Isabella".  The Catholic Daughters supported the war efforts in World War I and World War II with monetary donations, service as nurses and providing other necessities.

Both Bishop Fulton J. Sheen and Mother Teresa addressed the Catholic Daughters telling them to continue their service for Christ and expand the areas they serve.  Bishop Sheen said, "You are the Catholic Daughters of America: I would like you to become the Catholic Daughters of the World."

Today, under the leadership of National Regent Emily Guilherme, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas has nearly 63,000 members in 1,250 courts in the United States and her territories of Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands, and Mexico.

State of Colorado

Colorado’s first court was Court #360 in Longmont, Colorado.  It all began sometime before 1920 and they remained active until around 1929 or 1931.  The second court was Court St. Mary #513 in Colorado Springs instituted June 20, 1920.  It was active until disbanded on December 13, 2006.  The third court was Court St. Rita #625 in Denver instituted on May 15, 1921 and was active until disbanded March 31, 2006.  The fourth court was Court Little Flower #925 in La Junta instituted on January 25, 1925 and is still active to this day.  Our fifth court was Court St. Anne #927 in Pueblo instituted some time between January and April 1925 and was active until some time between 1937 and 1939.  Our sixth court was Court Mt. Of the Holy Cross #941 in Grand Junction instituted on April 25, 1925 and is still active to this day.

Finally, in 1925 we had the five courts necessary for a state court and the first convention was held in Denver on May 18, 1925.  In fact there were six courts in attendance: Longmont, Grand Junction, Colorado Springs, Denver, LaJunta and Pueblo.  Miss Frances Maher, National Vice Supreme Regent, presided over a convention that must have been an exciting one.  Mary O’Fallen was elected first State Regent.  As Grand Regent of Court St. Rita, she had been active in promoting the State Court.  Joining her in this first slate of officers were:  Secretary – Anna Fleming, Court St. Mary (Colorado Springs); Treasurer – Maymo Garrett, Longmont; Advocate – Justine Sissons, Court Little Flower (LaJunta); Monitor – Irene McCarthy, Court St. Anne (Pueblo); Bishop Tihon was named Chaplain.
